On May 31, 1999, I visited the Piqua Historical Area in Piqua, Ohio, to get a look at this unusual Adena earthwork. It was originally ring-shaped, but due to the cultivation of a nearby field it is now somewhat U-shaped. At the bottom of the hill, there is an artesian spring that once provided water and a means of refrigeration for the home of John Johnston, a federal Indian agent for western Ohio in the early 1800s. As I dowsed around the ditch, I located 49 lines extending outward from the mound in the center.  There was also a series of 16 concentric circles spreading out from the center of the mound to the surrounding bank, creating a web-like pattern of energy.
