On March 20, 1999, I visited Fort Hill in Highland County, Ohio. The earthwork consists of a wall, 6' - 15' high, and 1.6 miles in length that encloses 48 acres at the peak of a hilltop. I noticed several artesian springs running off the hill. As I dowsed along the top of the hill, I found a series of lines that ran perpendicular to the side of the wall that corresponded to the movement of underground water feeding the artesian springs below. There was also a line that followed the contour of the wall and corresponding rings of concentric circles both inside and outside of the earthwork, creating a grid-like pattern.
